Rockville MD, located near Washington, D.C., is one of the largest cities in the state. Voted the 39th best place to live by Money Magazine in 2017, this city welcomes newcomers and visitors alike. While there are dozens of attractions to visit in this popular city, among the most popular are the Rock Creek Regional Park, Glenview Mansion, and Rockville Town Square.

Rock Creek Regional Park, over 1500 acres in size, offers its visitors much in the form of outdoor adventure. The two lakes within the park, Lake Needwood and Lake Frank, totaling 130 acres, are perfect for boating as well as fishing for crappies, trout, and largemouth bass. Between the months of May and September, visitors are able to rent pedal boats, kayaks, canoes, and rowboats. Additionally, tours aboard the Needwood Queen pontoon is an excellent way to see wildlife, such as turtles and birds, on the lake. Hikers and cyclists will enjoy the two trail systems which cover over 13 miles of scenic terrain within the park. Also available are picnic shelters, which include grills and are located near playground areas and the archery range. Go Ape, an adventure course that spans several acres, offers zip lines, Tarzan swings, rope ladders, and more. Finally, a golf course, for those who can’t resist the greens.

Originally built as a 2-story farmhouse in 1838, Glenview was transformed into a Neoclassical mansion in the 1920’s, and eventually purchased by the Montgomery County Historical Society in 1957 to be used as a civic center. Although many additions resulted in what is now called the Glenview Mansion, the original house is maintained in the center of the house that exists today. Featured here is a beautifully landscaped garden and an art gallery, as well as free concerts, which are offered monthly on Sunday afternoons. Additionally, events, such as birthday parties and weddings, are often celebrated at this location.

At the center of Rockville Town Square is a water fountain, surrounded by over 50 restaurants and shops. As well as finding typical American food in the square, there are also restaurants featuring a variety of ethnic foods such as Lebanese, Irish, and French. A few of the shops include a boutique, a jewelry store, a wine and beer store, and a brand new organic market, although this is just a small sample of the wide variety of shops located here. The VisArts Center, an art gallery, offers educational classes as well as items for sale. In addition, there are several events held at the town square. In the winter months, an ice rink, complete with skate rental and lessons, provides endless outdoor enjoyment for the entire family. In the summer months, on select Fridays, visitors can enjoy live concerts. Other events are scheduled throughout the year, as well.

As shown above, there are many places to go and things to do in the city of Rockville MD. Whether enjoying the outdoors, sight-seeing, shopping, or experiencing a new type of food, this quaint city offers a little something for everyone to enjoy.
